An independent (financial adviser’s) view

For those advisers who are working full-time, it seems there are plenty of potential clients out there. Many do put up barriers. We’re the only independent advisers within 20 miles who don’t have a minimum ‘level of wealth. However, whether the unadvised know they should or want to be clients is another question. Asking for help, in any aspect of life, can be a big step. It’s often a crisis which pushes you to it; had you asked earlier, the crisis may not have arisen; the problem might still be there, but forethought and planning could smooth the way. Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is  that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
