To Brexiteers, Carney is yet another nay-saying Remoaner. Yet I’m afraid he’s right. If our £ is not an alternative to the Euro and we’re no longer Europe’s financial centre, why would you hold £s rather than $s or €s, Swedish Krona or even Rupees. If you changed money while on hols in the Eurozone this summer, you’ll know that in the real world, on the streets of Marbs, a £ is worth less than a €. Which means Paris will soon be rivalling Dubai in my ‘Price of a Glass or Rosé’ test.

Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is  that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
