An Inspirational Night

The financial sector was abuzz with celebration and inspiration last night, as we recognised and honoured the extraordinary achievements of women at the Women In Financial Advice Awards 2023. It was a night dedicated to illuminating the accomplishments of those who often go unnoticed – the women making significant strides in an industry where they remain underrepresented.

Philip James Financial Services Trailblazers

At Philip James Financial Services, our pride knew no bounds as three of our trailblazers – Sian MacInnes, Kendra Selzer, and Alice Conway – were part of this unforgettable event.

We’re chuffed to announce that Sian MacInnes (Woman of the Year, Retirement Planning) and Kendra Selzer (Rising Star Advice) were nominated but alas, pipped at the post!

The Women In Financial Advice Awards transcend the notion of gender rivalry or competition. They serve as a platform to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of women in finance, shining a light on the strides we’ve made toward gender diversity. They underscore the importance of empowering more women to join and excel in this dynamic sector.

The Power of Recognition

Reflecting on last night’s event, we are reminded of the transformative power of recognition and how it can spur change. These awards affirmed the crucial role that women play in the financial sector and sent a clear message to all women considering a career in finance – this industry values and celebrates your contribution.

Looking Ahead

As we raise a toast to the progress made, we also turn our gaze to the future. A future where we continue to shatter glass ceilings, inspire change, and champion more women to leave their mark in finance. We’re committed to ensuring that the Women in Financial Advice Awards is not just an annual event but an ongoing celebration and recognition of women’s contributions to finance.

Budget Rumours and Possibilities

The Budget Rumour Machine is not the shambles it was last year. Before Rachel’s Swansong all sorts of stuff was leaked to see what sort of puddle it would create.

Banks are opening branches again!

There’s a branch of Santander in Oxford which has a cafe, ‘co-working spaces and bookable meeting rooms as well as standard banking facilities’. And this, it seems is going to be a thing, as Barclays, too, has decided to reopen branches which will also include trendy cafes (well, a Costa) and chill-out work areas.

Why do 70% not get advice when taking pension benefits?

In the age of the internet, you can DIY pretty much anything. It will tell you how to fix your electrics or plumbing. You can book a holiday,, service a car old enough not to require the attachment of a laptop – and, of course, invest and advise yourself financially.
