So Lord Farage of Brexitshire wants a second referendum. Is he a) very clever b) not very clever c) a bit of a stirrer? Should he not have learnt from T May’s and D Cameron’s attempts to be very clever in 2015 and 2016? I’d say that, as he’s not elected to do anything in this country, even in his own (former?) party c) would be the correct answer to put on your postcard. I just hope, on this occasion, his wise advice is heeded.

Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is  that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
