This lady is much decried south of the border, in particular by certain older, patrician Cotswold-dwellers. The excellent Gaby Hinsliff, who wrote this article is spot on, though. Sturgeon is the only political leader (don’t think, alas, we can count Vince) with a clear Brexit message. Scotland voted to remain by a large margin and I reckon they could go it alone and prosper by attracting big corporations looking to stay close, stay English speaking (sort of) and stay EU-based. And I bet plenty here would suddenly remember their Scottish roots and bung in a passport application!

History may not repeat itself, but it certainly rhymes. Is what Trump is doing as ‘unprecedented’ as every headline proclaims? I’m sure other wiser writers have spotted some of these historical echoes, but let’s remember some headlines from US history.
