Many commentators (not the sports ones, they have nothing to do at the moment) say this new way of living will change our way of living forever. What it should change is how we value those who do the really important jobs. Of course the nurses and carers. But also the staff at our local Coop, on minimum wage, working all hours and getting plenty of grief in return; the supermarket and Amazon deliverers on less than £1 a drop; and many others. Then let’s see how much we miss the footballers and F! Drivers, earning an average (just an average) of £1 every 30 seconds. And, yes, financial advisers, in cosy offices, able to work from home, and so not on minimum wage. Yet.
“Why most won’t need to worry about IHT on pensions”
Many a government has made the point that only a minority will be affected by this or that tax change or tinker. It is, however, both perception and aspiration which are important, and they are what makes IHT the ‘most hated’ of all taxes – along with all the others, of course.
