RBS is closing 259 branches and it’s all our fault. It fact, you might get the impression we’ve been petitioning them to provide more premises for Italian restaurants and wine bars in our high streets. Funny, because whenever I manage to find a bank to go into, there’s a long queue for the single cashier or to talk to the lady who can show you how to pay in cheques using the new-fangled, people-replacing machine. My guess is that the banks have seen how much we prefer travelling miles to get lost in giant hospitals now the local ones have all closed and are basing their business model on that. It will one day come back to bite them on their proverbial bottoms. I’d say.
