I read a great article in our trade press about retirement and the advice we give, or often should be giving to clients. I’ve talked before about ‘retirement regret’, when we see those we helped to retire a year or so later and find the feeling lost, as having the freedom to do nothing means they, literally, find themselves with nothing to do. That often results from another required, partly financial, partly mental change of mindset that’s needed. Having trained yourself to save for many years, in retirement you stop saving and start spending; what life can offer is no longer based on your salary. And it’s a change you need other make sooner rather than later, before the retirement ‘go-go’ years turn to ‘slow-go’ and then, inevitably, ‘no-go’. Our focus as advisers is on the financials, on giving you the confidence to know what you have will last you out. Much as we’d like to, we can’t spend it for you. Message to all (including self): ‘slow-go’ and ‘no go’ may be here before you know it. Make hay.
Budget Rumours and Possibilities
The Budget Rumour Machine is not the shambles it was last year. Before Rachel’s Swansong all sorts of stuff was leaked to see what sort of puddle it would create.
