Well, I don’t know either. But here’s a Christmas analogy. If you don’t really believe in it all, unless you’re really hard core, you’ll still stick up a tree, give pressies have,  a drink and some turkey. If you have to you’ll sing a few carols and go to the kids’ assembly. Going to church on the day and/or taking communion would be a step too far. So some Tory and and Labour Remainers will steel themselves and vote LibDem if they think it will make a difference. But will Trad Labour, who voted Leave to Stick it to the (Tory) Man, vote for the Man?

“Rachel Reeves may be forced to raise taxes”

Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is  that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
