The truly cynical could say that the Cvirus is a welcome distraction for a government already beset by problems; although, in reality, the government doesn’t need to worry about problems for another four years. The real health scandal, I’d say is the hugely increased division in life expectancy between rich and poor, highlighted in a report which seemed to last no more that two news bulletins last week. And the fact that we have more children living in poverty than Ireland, Poland and the OECD average. Anyway. Don’t forget to wash your hands.
“Rachel Reeves may be forced to raise taxes”
Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
