I’ve been reading Alistair Campbell’s diaries of ‘The Blair Years’. Do you remember the fiasco over the half-masting of the Palace flag for Princess Di? Tradition dictated that it should only be lowered for serving royals, not divorced exes. Forget tradition, Blair (respectfully) told HM, just do it or you’ll be history sooner rather than later.
