I’ve been reading Alistair Campbell’s diaries of ‘The Blair Years’. Do you remember the fiasco over the half-masting of the Palace flag for Princess Di? Tradition dictated that it should only be lowered for serving royals, not divorced exes. Forget tradition, Blair (respectfully) told HM, just do it or you’ll be history sooner rather than later. Bringing parliament back now when they’ve actually made some progress towards a 21st century, online version is Rees-Moggian madness, not unlike the aforementioned Holloway Friendly going back from email to post. Let’s hope our leaders don’t come to rue the day for other reasons.

Yet another reminder, should one be needed, of how quickly things can and will change. A nod and a wink in the right direction from himself and/ or an underling can provide the solace the money men crave and turn a plummet into, if not a soar at this stage, then certainly a bounce.
