High horse time. This, I think, is outrageous, yet has barely troubled the BBC, tabloid nor even broadsheet headlines. ‘Education secretary Gavin Williamson says the money will be directed instead towards Stem subjects’. No, me neither; it’s ‘Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics’. Arts and culture are the ‘soft powers’ for which we’re recognised and pretty good at as a nation, and always have been. Let’s face it, we were rubbish at the Olympics until money was thrown at our sportspeople; and came up with vaccines only when they became the focus of government attention (and money.) Stop funding arts education, and we’ll be the poorer for it. And the talented poorer will no longer get a look in at it.

Why did she/they (in the old sense) think that tinkering around with IHT and CGT would be enough to sort out the NHS; and the potholes; and…and the list goes on. My guess is  that they asked the Treasury for a list of anything not involving income tax that they could get away with lightly, although they should already have learned from the winter fuel stuff that all publicity is not good publicity.
