Our government’s position on both Universal Credit and Brexit is much the same. Everything’s screaming that they’re potential disasters which will put them out of office, but, to paraphrase the late Magnus Magnusson (kids etc.), ‘We’ve started so we’ll finish.’ Throwing more money at something which is supposed to save money is never a good idea; perhaps even immoral, while there are over 1.3m regular users of more than 2,000 food banks in the UK.

So it looks as though Cash ISAs are safe for the moment (FTM – is that a thing?) Rachel has apparently ‘bowed to pressure’ from the banks and building societies and decided not to reduce the allowance to £4,000 for cash and to keep the £20,000 parity with Stocks and Shares ISAs. Bowed also to common sense, I’d say.
