“Why is Boris dropping everything for football?”

I know some bloke once said football is more important than life or death. But really, come on. If Boris & Co had gone into action this quickly on, let’s say, Covid, we really could have been talking life or death. If previous governments had been willing to save other failing and indebted industries, we might still have some. It actually is only a game. I doubt we’d have the same furore over some break-away opera and ballet companies. That wouldn’t do quite so much for votes behind the Red Wall.

I was asked this week whether annuities are now ‘a good investment’. They’ve been recommended very rarely in recent years, since ‘pension freedoms’ allowed pretty much unlimited drawdown on pension funds and anything left to be passed on to beneficiaries free of Inheritance Tax.
